These are the 11 Naruto movies in chronological order

For 15 years, Naruto and Naruto: Shippuden have shown the adventures of the shinobi world. Despite over 700 episodes, that wasn’t enough to fully explore all of the amazing characters the anime introduced.

To tell other stories and present other details of the life of ninjas, Naruto also has ten feature films! Today you can learn all about anime spin-off movies, their plots, and where they fit into the main story!

1. Naruto the Movie: Ninja Battle in the Land of Snow! (2004)

The first Naruto feature film hit Japanese theaters in 2004, still during the classic saga. The movie takes place between the Finding Tsunade arc and the Tea Land Escort Mission arc, when the members of Team 7 were still only Genins.

In the plot, Kakashi assigns his team, made up of Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura, the mission of escorting actress Yukie Fujikaze to Snow Country, where she would film her next movie. What they didn’t know is that Yukie was also a princess and her necklace held an important secret that many people wanted.

Despite having practically no relation to the series, the film has a curiosity for fans: it shows Kakashi acting as a member of the Anbu.

2. Naruto the Movie: The Phantom Ruins Deep in the Earth (2005)

With the success of the first movie, it didn’t take long for a new one in the franchise to be released. The story takes place just before Sasuke’s escape from Konoha and his alliance with Orochimaru, near the conclusion of the first part of the anime.

In the movie, Naruto, Sakura, and Shikamaru are on a mission to retrieve a village’s pet ferret. During missions, the group is attacked by a mysterious knight. The ninjas discover that the village they worked for has a different power source than the Chakra: the Gelel stones.

The film shows other nationalities of the shinobi world, with characteristics similar to those of European nations, more dependent on technology, and who do not use Chakra to fight.

3. Naruto the Movie: Animal Panic on Crescent Moon Island! (2006)

The last film of the classic Naruto , Animal Panic on Crescent Moon Island takes place after episode 196, after Sasuke joined forces with Orochimaru. The film was even released in Japanese theaters, but was released direct-to-DVD in the West.

In the story, Naruto, Sakura, and Rock Lee are given a B-rank mission: to escort the prince of the Land of the Moon during his journey around the world. However, being out of his country, his father suffers a coup and the heir becomes a potential target.

Despite not being part of the main plot, a manga version of the story was produced.

4. Naruto Shippuden the Movie: The Death of Naruto (2007)

First film of the second phase of the anime. The events take place after Naruto Shippuden episode 53 , just after Naruto, Sakura, Sai and Yamato return to the Secret Leaf Village.

The plot follows the Konoha ninja trying to stop Moryo, a demon who intended to take over the shinobi world. The only threat to Moryo’s plan was Shion, a priestess capable of sealing the spirit again. Naruto and his friends need to protect Shion to stop the threat.

The film was shown in US theaters, ranking sixth in the week’s openings. It also featured a manga adaptation.

5.Naruto Shippūden: Lazos (2008)

This movie takes place between episodes 67 and 70 of Naruto Shippuden , when Orochimaru was sick and Sasuke prepares to kill him.

The film begins with the Leaf Village suffering a surprise air attack by ninjas from the Land of Heaven. Using a kind of hang glider, the enemies drop bombs on Konoha, causing chaos in the village. Now Naruto and the others must stop the attack and stop a villain who wants to take advantage of it to gain even more power!

This is the second film in the franchise in which Sasuke appears. At the time, he was in league with Orochimaru and had defected from Konoha.

6. Naruto Shippūden: The Inheritors of the Will of Fire (2009)

The sixth film in the franchise, this production marked the 10th anniversary of the anime and takes place after episode 89 of Naruto Shippuden , during the filler arc of the Appearance of the Three Tails Arc.

In the movie, ninjas with hereditary abilities (Kekkei Genkai) begin to mysteriously disappear from villages. Team Kakashi, currently made up of Naruto, Sakura, and Sai, is sent to investigate the matter when they are attacked by mysterious creatures.

Naruto Shippūden: Inheritors of the Will of Fire brings back memories of Kakashi during the Third Shinobi World War and further deepens the character’s history.

7. Naruto Shippūden: La torre perdida (2010)

The fourth movie in the Shippuden phase . The production takes place shortly after Jiraiya’s death (episode 143) and just before Pain’s attack on Konoha.

During a mission to the ruins of Loran, a once glorious city, Naruto discovers that Mukade plans to travel back in time to dominate the Five Great Shinobi Countries. During a first encounter, the two end up fighting and Naruto travels along with the villain 20 years into the past.

The movie shows more about Minato, Jiraya and Guy and other older ninjas when they were still young, making it a really fun extra for those who are fans of the characters.

8. Naruto: The Blood Prison (2011)

Eighth Naruto film to debut in Japanese theaters. It is the only one that does not have a specific place in the timeline. Apparently, it takes place after Pain’s attack on Konoha.

In the story, Naruto is wrongly accused of trying to kill Raikage A, leader of the Hidden Cloud Village. The ninja is imprisoned in Hozuki Castle, a prison from which it is impossible to use his chakra without suffering excruciating pain. Now, Naruto will have to escape from captivity and prove his innocence.

This is one of the most criticized films by fans of the franchise: it doesn’t fit into any exact moment of the main story and has many inconsistencies in relation to the anime.

9. Naruto: The Ninja Way (2012)

The ninth Naruto feature film , the film takes place after the anime’s 251st episode, just before the Fourth Shinobi World War. The ninja had already met his mother.

After a new Akatsuki attack, with the return of characters who had already died, Naruto and Sakura are placed in a kind of parallel reality where everything is perfect: Naruto’s parents are still alive and Sakura is finally courted by Sasuke! But not everything is as good as it seems…

This film was written and had the character designs conceived by Masashi Kishimoto, creator of the manga.

10. The Last: Naruto the Movie (2014)

The last Naruto Shippuden movie , this is the only one that is part of the regular anime story, without being considered a filler. Although made earlier, production takes place after the events of Episode 500, serving as a prologue to the series.

The film begins with explanations of the origins of Kaguya Otsutsuki’s powers and flashbacks of Hinata and Naruto. At this time, the 5 kage meet to discuss an emergency: the end of the world! Now the ninjas must unite to stop the greatest threat of all!

The film details the final events of the plot and shows the relationship between Naruto and Hinata. Once again, the plot and design were done by Masashi Kishimoto, who considered the film to be a dream come true!

11.Boruto: Naruto the Movie (2015)

The movie works as a kind of link between Naruto Shippuden and Boruto . The animation shows Naruto already as Hokage of Konoha. His son Boruto is old enough to take the chunin exam, but because he misses his father, who is constantly worried about his duties as Hokage, the young man decides to cheat in the exam so that he will catch.

After a period of wandering the world, Sasuke returns to Konoha to alert Naruto to a new threat capable of jeopardizing world peace: Kinshiki Otsutsuki and Momoshiki Otsutsuki. The pair attack the Village and capture Naruto in an attempt to steal the Kyuubi from him.

Sasuke, Sarutobi, and young Boruto must confront the pair and rescue the Hokage.
